The Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization, which administers the Cuyahoga River’s Remediation Action Plan, and the Wildlife Habitat Council, an international conservation non-profit specializing in creating corporate habitats, have joined together to engage industry in a new and effective manner in the Cuyahoga watershed. "Adopt-a-Watershed" projects engage corporations and small businesses in improving habitat along river corridors and in all areas of the watershed. Due to the partners involved, this venture has added value--local involvement and national recognition. The Adopt-a-Watershed program: - engages industry with on-the-ground habitat projects implemented by employees on corporate sites, and
- sponsors local watershed organizations that implement the RAP’s recommended remediation practices.
These practices on and off corporate sites may include - streamside plantings,
- reducing lawn,
- wildlife gardens,
- stream monitoring, or other water or habitat quality practices.
These projects can be on land anywhere in the Cuyahoga River watershed, not just along waterways. Everyone impacts a watershed—what will your impact be? Your business could be a leader in this cooperative venture by joining and adopting a local watershed. Watershed Members will receive assistance from both WHC and the RAP in beginning habitat projects on site, whether your business has 300 acres or just a postage stamp lawn. What are the rewards? - positive publicity as a charter member,
- increased employee morale,
- community support of grassroots efforts,
- improved land management,
- cost savings on maintenance,
- enhanced aesthetics,
- improved habitat for wildlife.
If we join, what do we receive?
