Southwest Regional Biologist

Description
We are looking for a creative, skilled biologist/ecologist for our office in Houston, Texas. The position focuses on engaging corporate landowners in biodiversity stewardship and sustainable land management through strong partnerships with industry, state and federal government agencies, and non-profit organizations. The incumbent will be responsible for recruiting and advising corporate landowners in southwestern states and connecting their efforts to larger-scale initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, solicit and develop new members for the Council and maintain positive relations with existing members in the region;
  • Identify and obtain new corporate facility sites to include in WHC’s Wildlife at Work program;
  • Perform on-site ecological evaluations and prepare opportunity reports that identify projects to enhance biodiversity on corporate properties with a strong employee and community involvement;
  • Prepare and deliver presentations about WHC at business, government, professional and academic settings to gain greater visibility for the organization and its work; and
  • Develop partnerships with other non-profit and government agencies that support the vision and mission of WHC and the Waterways for Wildlife project; and
  • Conduct seminars, develop and publish informational materials, and sponsor studies related to the work of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/graduate degree in natural science or related field.
  • Documented experience with ecological consulting, management plan creation, biodiversity assessments, community relations and southwest ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self starting, independent performer with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong writing and presentation skills to large and small diverse groups.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Experience in working with corporations or other private landowners helpful.
  • Experience in fund raising ability/grant writing helpful.
