WHC and the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council: A partnership in Land Revitalization

In 2003, the Wildlife Habitat Council and the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that establishes a formal partnership between the two organizations.

The agreement outlines a series of cooperative programs and efforts the two will undertake to facilitate the transfer of new and innovative ideas, concepts and technologies among WHC corporate sponsors, state regulators at WHC sites and ITRC membership.  To identify and encourage optimal environmental and ecological benefits at contaminated sites, WHC and ITRC will work together to reach the following goals:

• Strive to streamline state regulatory input into joint WHC-ITRC activities;                  
• Obtain multi-state acceptance of innovative concepts and technologies relevant to WHC projects such as: "Using Ecological Enhancements as Part of Remediation Programs at Leaking Underground Storage Tanks" and "Restoring Green Space: Using Ecological Enhancements at Superfund, RCRA Corrective Action and Brownfield Sites";  
• Develop, support and integrate the interests and values of WHC members into an ITRC Five Year Plan; and                  
• Encourage participation of WHC members and staff on ITRC teams such as Alternative Landfill Technologies, Mitigation Wetlands, Brownfields and MTBE and in ITRC activities;

Together, WHC and ITRC work to improve our natural resources and environment for many years to come.
