Environmental Education Plan

In 2005, the environmental education program at New Beginnings—the Woodlawn Wildlife Area earned certification for the successful implementation of site-based environmental education through the Corporate Lands for Learning (CLL) program. The Woodlawn Wildlife Area has been recognized for this prestigious distinction due to the community partners' demonstrated commitment towards establishing an effective education program that allows learners to use the site wildlife habitat as an outdoor laboratory.

"The efforts of the team members at the New Beginnings - The Woodlawn Wildlife Area have been highly commendable.  WHC's education program manger was impressed with the innovative programs designed to educate through hands-on experiences and workshops, and especially with Woodlawn’s commitment to raising awareness of critical issues such as the management of invasive plant species; this site-based program has truly become a living laboratory. This CLL Certification is a credit those who work on the site, those who support theprogram, and to your community partners who have worked with such dedication and commitment to make this program a reality."

In October of 2005, WHC staff met with community partners to discuss the continued use of New Beginnings as an environmental education area and to brainstorm ideas for educational activities for the coming year.  WHC staff will be working with New Beginnings partners to expand on these ideas and develop a schedule of educational events for 2006.  Please check the calendar for more information about these events.

In March of 2006, WHC staff added an educational component to the existing nature trail at New Beginnings.  There are now numbered posts along the trail; these numbers correspond to information contained in the Trail Guide.  Copies of the Trail Guide can be found at the site, or downloaded by clicking here.
