Congratulations to the 2007 international conservation award nominees. These dedicated members, volunteers and partners demonstrate excellence in the areas of wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration. Visit the Registry of Certified Programs to learn more about these programs and many others, plus stop by our celebrating all of our winners from past years.

The keynote speaker, Daniel C. Esty, spoke to attendees about achieving both environmental and business success. WHC also introduced a spectacular live animal ambassador show, sponsored by Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. The World Bird Sanctuary, founded in 1977 by ornithologist Walter C. Crawford, Jr., is the premiere facility in North America for the conservation of birds and leading public awareness regarding the plight of bird species worldwide.

Whether you have only a small backyard or an entire corporate campus to manage, you can play a vital role in pollinator conservation through simple, small steps. For the first-time, WHC presented the Pollinator Breakfast, sponsored by Waste Management, Inc. Attendees sampled foods brought to us by pollinators, including honey from various floral sources around the country and globe, including cactus honey, Kenyan honey and more.

Thanks to sponsorship by Kinder Morgan, WHC will address the ecological footprint generated by its upcoming Annual Symposium. Through Go Zero, The Conservation Fund will calculate the carbon dioxide emissions produced by the meeting facilities and transportation, and then offset the carbon contribution by planting trees.

WHC also featured the beautiful vocals of Jessica Elbert, an exciting new vocal jazz artist out of New York City, who will perform songs from her debut album Anlage. Her extraordinary vocals breathe new life into old jazz favorites.

Indeed there is a Green Wave sweeping our society in general and business in particular. A number of corporate led initiatives are being pursued individually by companies, and others are being conducted in concert with national and international business associations. The wave of corporate sustainability is gaining national attention in the media and how WHC is working with our members to incorporate sustainable practices and achieve practical goals.
