Technical Assistance Program: Provides landowners with adequate information to properly manage their lands for wildlife. An informal program.
Eligibility: All citizens.
Limitations: None.
Resources: Written materials; technical assistance in completing site inventories and in developing management plans. Limited technical assistance I implementing and monitoring habitat management plans; limited availability of equipment; guidance to obtaining federal financial assistance for wetlands and forestry management; some certification programs.

Wildlife Habitat Program: Assists property owners in establishing and enhancing wildlife habitat.
Eligibility: Schools, civic groups, scouts, homeowner associations, corporations, families, individuals.
Limitations: None.
Resources: Written materials; plant discounts from cooperating nurseries; reference list of trained wildlife landscapers; teacher assistance curriculum packet; project certification. There is a mini-grant program available to teachers.

Natural Areas Program: Identifies and protects Virginia’s biological diversity.
Eligibility: Private citizens, businesses, organizations, local governments.
Limitations: No acreage limitations. Eligible lands are those with rare species, exemplary natural communities, or significant biodiversity. Management agreements are an option.
Resources: Written materials; technical assistance in completing site inventories and in developing, implementing, and monitoring management plans (fees charged, based on time and resources involved); certification programs. Cost share funds may be available for major projects. This program includes monitoring during and after project implementation.

Virginia Coverts Program: Provides training in forest and wildlife ecology, biology, and resource management, and supports program graduates in conducting outreach programs in their communities.
Eligibility: Private citizens; representatives of industries, agencies, and organizations who have contact with private landowners.
Limitations: Must be an innovative community leader and early adopter; must provide a minimum of two hours per week in community outreach activities.
Resources: Written materials. Training in completing site inventories; in developing, implementing, and monitoring habitat management plans; and in obtaining available financial assistance.
