WHC/NRCS Fish and Wildlife Habitat Management Leaflets

The Fish and Wildlife Habitat Management Leaflet series is part of a continuing partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Wildlife Habitat Council biological staff and Wildlife at Work teams use the leaflets to improve fish and wildlife habitat on corporate lands.

NRCS conservation planners also use the leaflets for working with farmers and ranchers to foster natural resources conservation on private lands.

  • Discover the habitat requirements of the mule deer, sage grouse, mourning dove, swift fox, and many other species!
  • Learn about the habitat needs of grassland birds, shorebirds, and other general wildlife groups!
  • Find out how to implement specific habitat management practices on your property!
  • Learn about landscape-level habitat management issues, such as Integrated Pest Management!

The Wildlife Habitat Council and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service have been collaborating on the leaflet series since 1998. To date, 23 leaflets have been developed and another 21 are in progress.

NRCS provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain, and improve our natural resources and environment.

WHC and NRCS work under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which has been ongoing since 1996. The MOU outlines shared opportunities and goals, such as:

  • Enhancing wildlife habitat and wetlands on corporate and private lands;
  • Advancing public and private awareness and appreciation of wildlife habitat issues and needs;
  • Working with private industry and corporations to encourage their participation in the enhancement, conservation, and development of wildlife habitat and wetlands on unused industry and corporate lands; and
  • Working with private industry and corporations to encourage incorporation of wildlife habitat conservation into existing and new corporate development plans.
