About the Wildlife Habitat Council

The Wildlife Habitat Council engages the business and private sectors as one team for the recovery, development, and preservation of wildlife habitat worldwide and is shifting the paradigm on how society deals with habitat and environmental issues. Our programs bring conservation and community groups, government, and corporations together on common goals based on wildlife habitat concerns.

Wildlife at Work, Corporate Lands for Learning, Waterways for Wildlife, Wastelands to Wildlands and Collaborations for Conservation are some of the programs the Council offers to increase environmental awareness, protect lands for wildlife, and find solutions that lead to sustainable development.

Wildlife at Work

Wildlife at Work involves the workforce in habitat management programs on corporate lands. The program is established at over 375 sites in the United States, Canada, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, and Spain. Beginning with a site visit, corporate and manufacturing facilities' employees learn of the habitat opportunities on their site, document the wildlife utilizing the land, and initiate hands-on projects to improve habitat at the site. Community groups and local conservation groups often join the endeavor.

This year, WHC increased the number of site visits by 25% over last year. Sites initiating Wildlife at Work programs added 68,626 acres of habitat to WHC's total. Acreage within the certification program reached 123,428 acres.

Wildlife Habitat Certification

The Wildlife Habitat Council Certification Program offers review and third-party validation of corporate habitats. Now in its fourth year, the program has documented monitoring efforts, habitat projects, wildlife inventories and other measurable activities at 110 sites qualifying for certification. Sites are required to submit documentation of their programs every two years to ensure an on-going commitment to the protection of habitat.
