Courtright, ON Canada
Certified since: 1992

Terra International (Canada) Inc. maintains a wildlife habitat program on 25 of its 800-acre property. Terra International (Canada) is located along the St. Clair River in southwestern Ontario, and is partnered with the Wildlife Habitat Council’s St. Clair River Basin Project, Ministry of Natural Resources, Lambton Conservation Authority, St. Clair Parkway Commission and Sydenham Wildlife Group. Through these partnerships and help from employees and assistance through their summer student program Terra maintains a quality habitat program .

The team working on the berm project is learning from its successes and failures and continues to modify projects to attain optimum wildlife benefits. In 1999, five additional acres were planted with native grasses to continue the program. Other projects that are maintained include a nest monitoring program for eastern bluebirds, purple martins and wood ducks. Periodic monitoring documented purple martins, tree swallows and many wood ducks nesting on-site.

Formal landscaping projects continue with a focus on attracting hummingbirds with the placement of hummingbird feeders and gardens around the administrative buildings.
In spring of 2003 volunteers planted trees around the site to provide habitat for small birds and animals, while adding to the visual appeal of the landscape. Most recently 50 acres of property to sustain trees and prairie grasses have been donated by the Terra Courtright Plant, allowing more space for the growth of its wildlife enhancement projects.
