PHI Employees Honor Earth Day
Model Company’s Environmental Commitment

Pepco Holdings, Inc. employees participated in the annual spring cleanup of the Anacostia River shoreline in partnership with the National Park Service, North American Energy Services, Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, Inc. and others, on Saturday, April 21, 2007.

Volunteers also planted trees, removed debris and helped restore the landscape. Pepco’s Benning Service Center in Northeast Washington, served as the staging area for cleanup activities.

“We must strive to use resources efficiently, and support efforts to preserve the natural habitat by continually improving the company’s environmental performance,” said Thomas Graham, Pepco Region President.

The Anacostia Cleanup coincided with the 30th Anniversary of Earth Day, with the river cleanup effort organized by Capital River Relief, a partnership of environmental, community, business and government organizations dedicated to improving the quality of the Anacostia and Potomac rivers and watersheds.

PHI Named Tree Line USA Utility

All three PHI utilities, Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Pepco, have been named "Tree Line USA Utilities" for 2007 by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The Tree Line USA program is sponsored by the Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters. It recognizes utilities that meet three requirements: a program of quality tree care; annual worker training in quality tree care; and a tree planting and public education program.

"Tree Line USA is so vital because trees are essential to America’s cities and towns, offering their many environmental and economic benefits," said Foundation President John Rosenow. "We are very proud of the work everyone does to make this award possible," says Pepco Staff Forester Nathan McElroy. His counterparts at the sister utilities agree.

"This is something we all feel good about, and I think it speaks well of PHI that we have this kind of commitment to good environmental stewardship,” says Matt Simons, Staff Forester for Atlantic City Electric. "These things don’t just happen. They take commitment, skill and dedication, and our team has shown it’s up to the task," agrees Mike Trotta, Staff Forester with Delmarva Power.

"The Tree Line USA award has become a benchmark of quality that our customers expect and look for, and we will continue to strive for this quality," added PHI System Forester Steve Genua.
