In 1988, a small group of innovative companies including DuPont, Exxon, General Motors, Tenneco, and US Steel joined forces to create a new non-profit organization that would encourage and recognize wildlife habitat on corporate lands—a radical notion at the time. Today, DuPont and (now) ExxonMobil continue their legacy of maintaining WHC-certified programs that benefit biodiversity, employees and communities.
