Business & Biodiversity Consultant

The Business & Biodiversity Consultant is a member of WHC Consulting’s group and joins an established team of ecologists, biologists and environmental specialists working to mainstream biodiversity across industry sectors, embedding conservation actions at the facility level and along the value chain. The position reports to the Director, Technical Services. The successful candidate will be given the option to work remotely or to join the Washington-DC area office.

Duties associated with the position include:

  • Deliver high-caliber technical support and innovation to WHC, members, and funders related to biodiversity assessments, climate change adaptation efforts, supply chain initiatives and, conservation plans and projects being developed and implemented by the organization for a global audience.
  • Participate in content development, informed by current conservation and corporate sustainability trends and knowledge, for use in technical reports, toolkits, strategies, workshops, webinars, and educational materials to engage, inform, and trigger actions for the benefit of people and planet.
  • Develop and test innovative approaches in the above areas for integration into winning private sector proposals to help maintain WHC at the forefront of corporate conservation services.
  • Collaborate with peers on growth efforts, from certification and membership to grant funding and partnerships.
  • Identify new business opportunities and lead the preparation of a variety of scopes of work.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships and a professional network with key corporate contacts, partners and experts.
  • Work in close collaboration with all WHC departments across initiatives supporting the mission.

Requirements

This position requires a critical thinking and a strategic mind, interested in improving the environment and contributing to sustainable outcomes. A successful candidate is a self-starter and team player seeking to be impactful in an agile, global non-profit organization devoted to conservation action, biodiversity uplift, and community empowerment through pragmatism, partnership, and collaboration. The ideal candidate must excel in routine project tasks as well as be capable of performing strategic and complex activities in order to further the goals of WHC.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, reflected by on-time and on-budget delivery of results.
  • Fluent in at least two of the following areas of knowledge: biodiversity; climate adaptation; community engagement; social justice; sustainability and ESG; conservation; remediation; habitat enhancement; wildlife species management; or carbon offsets.
  • Expertise in synthesizing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information to diverse constituencies with impact.
  • Successful experience working independently and/or remotely.
  • Agility and confidence to adapt to rapidly changing environments and conditions.
  • Commitment to 30% travel.
