About the Program
Benjamin Moore & Co.'s Flanders Technical & Admin Center is located in Flanders, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of Newark. Habitats on site include 42 acres of forest and shrub, where a nature trail is maintained. The team manages the property in order to provide habitat for native species, control invasive species and provide nest boxes for cavity-nesting birds

Practices and Impacts
  • Starting in 2004, the team has maintained 34 nest boxes on-site for cavity-nesting birds including the eastern bluebird, tree swallow, house wren, black-capped chickadee and tufted titmouse. The team monitors the boxes weekly during the breeding season, documenting eggs and fledged young. In 2020, a record 32 of the 34 boxes showed sign of nesting activity, with an overall nesting success rate of 62%. Monitoring was limited in 2021 due to COVID but resumed in 2022.
