About the Program
The Monroe Power Plant (MPP) is located on a 1,000-acre tract of land in Michigan, on the western basin of Lake Erie between the Raisin River and Plum Creek. The 800 acres available for wildlife enhancement at the site include ponds, restored prairies, wetlands, woodlands and areas along the Lake Erie shoreline.

Practices and Impacts
  • Bald eagles have also made the MPP their home. Each year, the team works with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) to conduct aerial monitoring surveys of the two nests on-site. Eagle pairs have been consistently seen around the two nesting sites in recent years.
  • Community members are invited on-site every winter to participate in an eagle tour. Through a lottery system, 60 visitors out of an application pool of thousands are granted tour access each year. The tour is led by plant employees, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and an interpretive naturalist from the University of Michigan - Dearborn.
