Puddledock Plant

About the Program
Vulcan Materials Company's Puddledock Sand and Gravel Plant is located near Petersburg Virginia, United States and produces construction aggregates, including gravel, sand and crushed stone, for use in building. The site contains a mix of grasses, sedges, and wooded habitat as well as aquatic habitat from the Appomattox River. The team monitors and manages eight songbird and six wood duck nest boxes and one Purple Martin house to help provide nesting habitat to improve the reproductive success of these native species. 

Practices and Impacts

• The site features 8 songbird nest boxes and 6 wood duck boxes, which they monitor during the breeding season, and perform frequent maintenance to keep the boxes clean and ready for nesting birds.
• In 2020, the team added a Purple Martin house, which they monitor and manage.
