About the Program
Lafarge operates a cement plant in Exshaw, Alberta in Canada. Just north of the Bow River and Lac des Arcs, this plant is 90 miles west of Calgary and nearly sits on the southwestern border of Alberta and British Columbia. This site is situated on the edge of the Canadian Rockies, just south of Banff National Park and southeast of Glacier National Park. This site hosts a garden at the front entrance, 0.12 acres in size, that is meant to attract native pollinator species.
Practices and Impacts
- There were 31 native plant species in the garden in 2021 that are monitored throughout the growing season to determine overall health and wildlife use of the garden. There are plans in 2022 to add more wildflower mixes to the garden to attract more pollinator species and wildlife to the garden.
