About the Program
CRH Materials has a site in Colchester, CT. It is located approximately 30 miles from Hartford, CT. The project team has focused their program on a short section of walking trail located near the Jeremy river. The project team focuses on species in a blend of wooded, grassland, and wetland habitats. Two of the project focus on native species and the final project focuses on invasive plants. The entire program area is around 1 acre. Activities are conducted monthly during the spring, summer, and fall.

Practices and Impacts
  • The project team has focused the majority of their efforts on cutting invasive plants at their base. Successive eradication measures are primarily focused on spraying the invasive species.
  • The project team has placed nest boxes on site to provide nesting for Black-Capped Chickadee a regionally important species. Additionally, brush piles on site also provide additional shelter.
  • The Eastern Box Turtle has been spotted on site. This vulnerable reptile species utilizes the grassland, woodland, and brush piles as habitat.
