About the Program
CRH Materials maintains a site in Colchester, Connecticut, located approximately 30 miles from Hartford. The project team has focused their program on a short section of walking trail located near the Jeremy River. Team members focus on species in a blend of wooded, grassland and wetland habitats. The entire program area is around two acres, and activities are conducted monthly during the spring, summer and fall.

Practices and Impacts
  • The project team has focused the majority of their efforts on cutting invasive plants at their base. Successive eradication measures are primarily focused on spraying the invasive species.
  • To provide nesting for the black-capped chickadee, a regionally important species, the team placed nest boxes on-site. Brush piles on-site provide additional shelter.
  • The Eastern Box Turtle has been spotted on-site. This vulnerable reptile species utilizes the grassland, woodland and brush piles as habitat.
