About the Program
Argos USA Corporation's Atlanta Plant is in Atlanta, Georgia. The site features 10 acres of unmanaged grassland, where the team has constructed nest boxes to provide breeding and nesting habitat for eastern bluebirds. The team provides several nest stations safe from natural predators to help offset the region's loss of habitat.

Practices and Impacts
  • Ten nest boxes around the facility provide habitat for eastern bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds. These boxes are cleaned annually and monitored weekly during the nesting period (March-May) and periodically at other times. Aggressive insects are abated as needed.
  • Nest boxes are located in quiet areas with natural tree lines that provide perching areas, water supplies and food sources necessary for attracting the desired species. Water is available from multiple sources on-site, including streams, ponds and a river. All provide clean natural water, which may also be inhabited with insects and worms.
  • The nest box trails have been strategically placed to ensure habitat requirements will be consistently available without demanding ongoing enhancement activities. The nest boxes face open areas as preferred by bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds.
