About the Program
The Camaçari Plant produces thermoplastic resins and is located in Camaçari, Brazil, approximately 25 miles north of the city of Salvador. It is situated in a region of Atlantic Forest that faces intense pressures of habitat loss and degradation due to human activity, while at the same time harboring extraordinary biodiversity and endemic species. Bayer’s Camaçari Plant team designed a project called Projeto Florescer ("Project Blossom") aimed at helping to reforest area on-site with native seedlings from their nursery and providing formal environmental education to local students and the wider community.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team at Camaçari plan partners with local NGO Ambiente Sustentável to provide environmental education through its Florescer Education Project to local high school, college and technical school students on various sustainability and conservation topics, including reforestation using native plants.
  • Prior to COVID-19 closures, this program engaged 40 participants in person throughout the year, and even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the team was able to reach 33 students monthly through virtual lessons during 2021.
