About the Program
WM's Evergreen Landfill, Inc., project is located in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. The site contains 1.425 acres of mitigated wetlands, which provide a slow release runoff to an unnamed tributary of Laurel Run. The objective of the wetlands is to provide sediment retention/filtering, nutrient assimilation, biomass accumulation and support for local wildlife.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team monitors and maintains three tiered parceled wetland areas for hydrologic performance, erosion and sediment control.
  • Invasive species in the surrounding nine acres are monitored, and attempts are made to control them via physical removal and herbicide applications.
  • The team installed four bat boxes in September 2019 and monitors and maintains them.
  • A pollinator garden was established to provide habitat for local pollinators and indirectly a food source for local bats. Garden is maintained and monitored throughout the growing season.
  • Bluebird and wood duck boxes are also maintained/monitored on-site to support cavity-nesting species in the project area.
