About the Program
Exelon’s Dresden Generating Station is located approximately 62 miles southwest of Chicago, Illinois on 1,600 acres of land. The plant is bordered by the Illinois River to the north and the Kankakee River to the east. Predominantly undeveloped land surrounds the rest of the property. The team actively monitors and manages landscaping, bluebird nest boxes, osprey platforms, purple martin houses and pollinator habitat on the property grounds.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team has installed 26 osprey platforms in the region, including seven on-site. The platforms are monitored, and results are shared with a number of county, state and federal organizations. Employees and community members are taught about the importance of providing osprey habitat.
  • In partnership with WHC, Exelon held a team-building webinar with the goal of enhancing networking and knowledge throughout Dresden Generating Station. Projects discussed including osprey, purple martins, bluebirds and pollinators, with a focus on new and potential projects for the future.
  • The team is controlling for phragmites on seven acres of their land. Since 2019, they have partnered with a specialist to help with the physical removal of the invasive plants.
