About the Program
Stellantis US Headquarters and Technology center is located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a suburb north of Detroit. The 504-acre campus is bordered by the Galloway Creek to the north and consists of wetlands, forested areas and grasslands. The team manages 55 acres of habitat for wildlife and uses its large natural area to engage and educate employees about the importance of conservation.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team manages a 400-square-foot Monarch Butterfly Waystation, which provides habitat for monarch butterflies, including the milkweed necessary for their lifecycle.
  • The conservation objective of the pollinator garden is to improve the diversity of host plants and create habitat for native pollinators. The team expanded the garden by 0.034 acre, planting exclusively native species and installing two bee houses. The gardens are maintained weekly.
  • Along with a landscaping crew, the team completes weekly weeding and watering and manages invasive species in the landscaped habitats.
  • Ten bat boxes are placed around the site in locations close to foraging habitat and water sources. The boxes are monitored by team members on a monthly basis throughout the summer. In 2019, five species of native bats were detected at the site through audio monitoring.
  • The team maintains and monitors a wood duck box that was placed in wetland habitat in 2019. The box provides a nesting location for the cavity nesting wood duck or other cavity-nesting duck species, such as the common merganser. Activity was noted in the nest box in 2021.
  • Every Earth Day, the team hosts an event that highlights conservation projects on the campus and invites many outside groups to present on their conservation efforts. In 2019, the event was hosted at the Stellantis North American Headquarters. In 2020 and 2021, the team provided virtual events that included recorded presentations and online content.
  • The team partners with Oakland Audubon Society to provide nature walks for employees at headquarters. The participants learn about the site's habitat and conservation projects and contribute to species inventories of birds and butterflies.
  • Since 2006, the team has limited access to the on-site great blue heron rookery during breeding season. Over twenty nests have been observed.
