About the Program
The Crow Island State Game Area Partnership is located in Michigan in Saginaw and Bay counties. The game area is made up of over 3,000 acres of state-owned land that is managed for both hunting and wildlife conservation. The area is also a part of the ITC transmission corridor system, and its management is coordinated between the two to promote a diverse grassland habitat. The project focuses on controlling invasive species in the area as well as monitoring overall plant diversity. The site is known to contain the Eastern prairie fringed orchid, a protected threatened plant species.

Practices and Impacts
  • The grassland project focuses on maintaining a biodiverse grassland habitat. The majority of species at the site are native, and the project team is working to control invasive species while protecting the more rare species. Annual surveys, including identification of plant and wildlife species, are conducted, and the results are assessed to monitor success and plan next steps of the project.
