About the Program
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama (TMMAL), north of Huntsville, is an automobile plant. The site surrounded by two ponds (0.11 acres), 5.5 acres of area afforested from mowed turf, 2.5 acres of grassland and several pollinator gardens (0.1 acres). Toyota has committed to "Plant in Harmony with Nature" by converting parts of their properties to native habitat for pollinators and other species. As such, TMMAL seeks to reduce the amount of mowed turf on-site by establishing forest and grassland areas. Toyota seeks to increase pollinator presence on-site and to increase waterfowl by converting stormwater ponds into wetlands.
Practices and Impacts
- The forested area is actively monitored for plant success.
- The pond habitat is monitored for wildlife on-site as well as water levels.
