About the Program
With over 100 sites in North America, BASF Corporation has committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices at every site location. The Belvidere site carries this commitment to habitat projects on-site that not only benefit flora and fauna located on the property, but also benefit flora and fauna on nearby lands. Located along the Delaware River on the New Jersey side, approximately 30 miles northeast of Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Belvidere site manages forest and grassland habitats and provides artificial nesting structures for birds and bats.

Practices and Impacts
  • Bat houses for both solitary and colonial bats were built and installed in different locations around the site to support local bat populations. Houses are monitored and maintained on a yearly basis.
  • In 2015, a local Eagle Scout candidate built and installed twelve nest boxes and one platform designed for birds of prey including the eastern screech owl, American kestrel, osprey and bald eagle. The forest habitat and the Delaware River provide for avian survival needs of foraging, water, migratory stopover and winter shelter, while the nest boxes provide needs of nesting, breeding and shelter.
  • The site includes forest habitat that is currently focused on removing invasive species with hopes to revitalize it with native plantings in the future.
