About the Program
The Bayer Remington Pollinator Project is located at the company's crop science facility in Jasper, Indiana. In 2015, the team planted a one-acre wildflower plot and later over-seeded the area to increase the prevalence of milkweed. Besides focusing on habitat for monarch butterflies, the team partners with a local school district to educate students about the monarch life cycle.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team at Bayer maintains a pollinator habitat on-site for the benefit of monarch butterflies and other native pollinator species. The project was initiated in 2015 with the planting of milkweed and a variety of native nectar- and pollen-producing plants.
  • During each growing season, the team weeds the area of invasive species like field thistle and logs observations of changes in the habitat. Monitoring is conducted about every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. Milkweed, along with yellow, purple and pale purple coneflower, now all have a very strong presence in the garden area. The team has also noted several adult monarchs, at least one egg and a caterpillar.
  • Recently, a bee box was added to the garden to attract native bee species.
