About the Program
General Motors Company’s SGMW Baojun Base is an automotive manufacturing plant located in Guangxi, China. Over 100 acres are dedicated to support wildlife, avian and pollinator species. The site installed a landscaped habitat in 2012 and continues to manage the property to enhance life for local wildlife, increase biodiversity and champion environmental stewardship and restoration in the community.

Practices and Impacts
  • Native plant species were planted on-site across 124 acres of landscaped habitat.
  • Native fruit trees were planted across 7.4 acres of land to provide foraging opportunities for wildlife. Many fruit trees have been planted in the base, including longan, mango, peach tree, bayberry and other foods for wild animals to forage; banyan trees, kapok trees, tonsil trees and other shrubs are used as shelters. Baojun Base expands rich plant space in green space and exposed ground areas to provide them with nesting space.
  • The team conducts annual monitoring of avian and pollinator species. Team members plant fruit trees to provide nectar for pollinators and nesting and breeding opportunities for native avian species.
  • The Baojun Base adopts a friendly farming method of less pesticides and fertilizers, which is also a safe and suitable environment for Chinese bees, butterflies and other wild animals.
