The conservation objective is to manage the feral hog population to prevent forest damage and maintain wildlife habitat.

Practices and Impacts

  • Corral trapping is implemented to manage the hog population.
  • New methods of trapping are in place to better catch the feral hogs. Methods used include electronic/phone capabilities to set off the traps capturing hogs in greater numbers.
  • During operations, visuals of the hogs allow for the contractor to know where to set hog traps.
  • Hog populations are now considered more manageable.
  • Blue birds are nesting in the nest boxes provided.
  • Control burns are managing lady bug populations.
