About the Program
The CEMEX Monterrey site is located in Nuevo León, Mexico. The team maintains an on-site nursery where native and other plants are grown for planting projects. It also maintains a large wetland habitat on-site. CEMEX seeks to facilitate the collection and sharing of native plants and wildlife data from its pollinator garden and quarry.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team works with the local community, schools and government to complete reforestation activities in public spaces and increase green areas.
  • The team has maintained a pollinator garden. Plants were selected for their value in supporting all life stages of pollinators, such as nectar-producing, larval and host plants for migratory monarchs. Nuevo Leon is a known stop along the monarch butterfly migration path.
  • Students, employees and partners monitor pollinators, plants, birds and other wildlife in the pollinator garden and at a quarry wetland located 300 meters from the pollinator garden.
  • CEMEX leads an environmental education program, "Promotores Ambientales Monterrey (PAM)," which empowers youth within the community to participate in dissemination, awareness, conservation and environmental restoration actions of the local habitat. Participants record flora and fauna on-site and in the larger community, recording their observations using the online app iNaturalista.
