About the Program
The Opel Szentgotthárd Ltd. program is operated by Opel Automobile GmbH in Szentgotthard, Vas, Hungary. The site is situated just north of the Rába River. The total area of the project site is three acres, and the site is being managed for restoration from a turf grass monoculture to a native hay meadow through active monitoring and mowing and grazing practices.

Practices ad Impacts

• Native species, Stellaria graminea, ranunculus polyphyllus, Lathyrus pratensis, Leontodon sp., Crepis biennis occur on the site which are characteristic of an Alopecurus hay meadow. Hypericum dubium appears on-site, which is a protected plant in Hungary.
• Continued management through mowing/grazing practices seek to reduce the non-native species and create a healthy hay meadow system.
• The grassland area is mowed twice a year, and systematic plant surveys are conducted annually to monitor the habitat.
• Employees and community members can view the area, which has been enhanced with informational signs.
