Introduction

The FCA Toledo Machining Plant is in Perrysburg, Ohio, just south of Toledo. The surrounding area is a mix of farmland and industrial sites. For the Habitats – Grassland - Pheasants Forever Habitat Restoration project, the wildlife team manages about 44 acres of formerly mowed lawn on the site which is being allowed to naturalize. The conservation objective is to continue to develop grassland habitat and monitor invasive plant species in the area. Partners (Diane Deyonker - Educator and Naturalist (aided with the program), Oak Openings Region Wild Ones member, Denise Gehring - Naturalist (aided with the program), Oak Openings Region Wild Ones member, Brian Good - EHS Co-Lead FCA TMP) assist in plant identification and make recommendations on invasive plant controls.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team monitors three grassland parcels on the property during the growing season. Data collected will be used to adaptively manage invasive species identified within the grasslands.
  • The team partners with local naturalists who aid in vegetation monitoring and provide technical advice to control invasive plant species identified within the grasslands.
