About the Program
Summit Materials is located in Texas and implements the Austin Materials Hay's Quarry Program. Twenty nest boxes have been installed throughout the property in 2018 to provide breeding and roosting habitat for use by migratory birds that breed in the region and year-round resident birds. The conservation objective is to maintain and enhance habitats for native wildlife. Blair Wildlife Consulting developed the wildlife management plan and implement the project.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team cleans and repairs the nest boxes annually.
  • Since management activities began by BWC personnel in 2018, 56 different bird species and 18 other wildlife species and/or their tracks or sign were observed on the Hays Quarry WMA.
  • Sixty-six individual birds were observed within a 75-foot radius of the survey points. A total of 49 individual birds were observed and a total of 21 different bird species were recorded within a 75-foot radius of the survey points during the spring survey. Seventeen individual birds were observed, and 16 different bird species were recorded within a 75-foot radius of the survey points during the winter survey.
