About the Program
Argos USA’s Savannah Terminal is located in the city limits of Savannah, Georgia. This ready-mix concrete supplier converted five acres of gravel property into two grass fields that support a variety of locally native bird species. The overarching goal of the habitat program is the restoration of lost habitats to provide for the needs of birds, resulting in an increase in their population. To this end, Argos employees volunteer their time to maintain artificial nest boxes for eastern bluebirds and purple martins.

Practices and Impacts
  • The avian species project began in 2017 and focuses on native birds that rely heavily on artificial nesting structures for breeding.
  • Program volunteers have installed one eastern bluebird box and two purple martin gourds. Volunteers monitor these for nests.
  • Other species frequently observed on site include mourning doves, killdeer and brown thrasher.
  • The team maintains the grass area to provide open space for birds to forage.
