About the Program
The Bruce Site program is operated by Bruce Power in Ontario, Canada, and situated on the eastern side of the Baie du Dore, which is part of Lake Huron. The site covers an area of over 260 acres of wetlands. The aim of the program is to control and remove a non-native plant species, Phragmites australis, which is a large reed grass known for creating dense stands that can be detrimental to native wetland plants and wildlife.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team works in collaboration with a local organization which specializes in phragmites removal and have utilized methods including an amphibious cutting machine to effectively reduce the area covered by the species each year.
  • The project aligns with initiatives across the province to control and reduce this species of phragmites in an environmentally sound manner.
