About the Program
Cemex Tamuín "Caliza y Arcilla" plant is located in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The team oversees a 6,000-square-meter area of desert habitat adjacent to a main boulevard and the company plant. As of the project's initiation in December 2020, the area was mostly comprised of shrubs, but it now supports a small population of growing mesquite trees whose dimensions are measured each month.

Practices and Impacts
  • At the beginning of the project, 117 trees representing six native desert tree and shrub species were planted.
  • Growth and survival of 30 planted trees were monitored monthly and reported in 2021.
  • Fifteen employees assist with watering the plants until established, as well as other maintenance and monitoring of the plants.
  • In 2022, the project added wildlife cameras to monitor mammal activity on-site.
