About the Program
Located in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico, Cemex's Guadalajara "Potrerillos I,II y La Presa" program is designed to increase community environmental awareness through the implementation of a community awareness and engagement project as well as the creation of a pollinator garden, living pharmacy garden and an avian monitoring project. The program began in 2018, and the conservation objectives are to train local community members to become environmental promoters for their community, while the gardens aim to provide green space in the area for pollinators and the local community to enjoy.

Practices and Impacts
  • Cemex has developed a training program for employees at the facility's on-site plant nursery, where participants care for native species used to establish pollinator gardens and other community green spaces.
  • The PRAC awareness and education project trains local students to become community environmental promoters, who help increase community environmental education.
  • Cemex supports pollinator gardens featuring regional plants that are used to engage and educate the local community. The participants monitor fauna found in the garden and have documented over 40 species of pollinators.
  • The avian project educates community members about common avian species found in the area. The community members then take data on avian observations on-site.
