About the Program
Ashland Inc.’s Former Hattiesburg Plant is located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The site is surrounded by patches of woodland, grassland, commercial and residential areas. The team manages 5.5 acres of native grassland to benefit local wildlife.

Practices and Impacts
  • The site has a 2.5-acre grassland habitat that the team manages and monitors. The habitat contains almost exclusively native vegetation in order to attract native pollinators on-site. While some invasive species do remain, the monitoring results have demonstrated that some of the native grasses and wildflowers planted in 2021 still remain in the habitat.
  • The grassland habitat has had success in attracting pollinators to the site. The team monitors the habitat throughout the year and consistently identifies pollinators in the area.
  • The team actively monitors the mammals on-site through the use of cameras. The cameras capture movement and are reviewed monthly. Ten distinct mammal species have been identified in the habitat, including coyotes, deer, armadillos and more.
