About the Program
The AstraZeneca Gaithersburg, MD, site is located at the large scientific campus a short drive from Washington, DC. The campus, which houses more than 3,000 employees, includes over 19 acres of open, landscaped space. This area has been managed for the invasive Norway maple since April 2021 in order to remove previously planted individuals and replace them with native tree species.

Practices and Impacts
  • In 2021, 19.85 acres of landscaped habitat were monitored for Norway maple and a sitewide inventory of existing trees was created.
  • Nine Norway maples were removed from the campus and will be replaced with native species in the future.
