About the Program
The Conco Quarries Galloway is a construction aggregates and concrete company located in the Ozarks Region near Springfield, Missouri. The projects include habitat restoration and invasive species management relating to a seven-acre native grassland on-site. The native grassland was previously a lime plant that was removed in 2006 and later invaded by non-native grasses. The project aims to increase native species and provide beneficial habitat for wildlife.

Practices and Impacts
  • In order to boost the site's biodiversity, the team transformed a former lime plant site into a thriving grassland that provides valuable wildlife habitat for mammals, bird and insects.
  • Using a combination of mechanical and chemical methods, as well as prescribed burning, the team controls the grassland habitat and surrounding areas for invasive plants including Johnsongrass, Bermudagrass, sericea lespedeza and crown vetch.
