About the Program
The Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Generating Plant is located near Dothan, Alabama. The twin-unit nuclear power station sits on a largely wooded and agricultural 1,850-acre site along the Chattahoochee River, approximately five miles south of Columbia, Alabama.

Practices and Impacts
  • Approximately 25 bluebird houses are maintained on-site. Houses are monitored bi-weekly, and data regarding nesting success is recorded. When needed, houses are replaced.
  • The team implements a feral hog removal program to minimize/eliminate damage caused by the presence of feral hogs to the forest and related ecosystems.  The site is continuously monitored by personnel and trail cams. When hogs are noted on-site, traps are set and the hogs are removed.
  • In 2022, 10 wood duck boxes were constructed and placed in appropriate aquatic locations around the site. Boxes are monitored for presence/absence of wood ducks and cleaned or maintained as needed.
  • A white-tailed deer management program is employed to maintain a healthy population of deer population on-site. Employees monitor deer throughout the year, and each fall the herd is culled during bow season.
