About the Program
Covia's Huntingburg, IN plant is located in southwestern Indiana about 56 miles outside of Evansville. The site was formerly an area housing raw material stockpile and transformed into a suitable wildlife habitat through construction of a pond.

Practices and Impacts
  • The initial wildlife habitat project began with a plan for a pond construction project in May 2000. The former debris site was transformed into a growing wildlife habitat nurturing fish, bird, and amphibian species.
  • In 2022, the pond was drained and dredged to allow the fish species stocked in the pond to thrive. The team will continue to enhance the site and program into the future by feeding and monitoring the fish and aquatic wildlife in the pond.
  • Employees monitor the wildlife seen at the site, noting that there was no loss of fish life noted since the dredging. Additionally, frogs and turtles on-site seem to be thriving.
