About the Program
General Motors’ GM Lansing Delta Township Assembly Center is a manufacturing facility located in Lansing, Michigan. Team members actively manage the site for the benefit of local wildlife and pollinators by applying best practice conservation techniques, along with offering conservation education opportunities to local students and the community through the Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN) program. The program teaches students and community members about environmental citizen science, sustainability awareness and water quality. The team continues to practice conservation stewardship across forest, grassland and wetland habitat.

Practices and Impacts
  • Team members erected nest boxes, bat boxes and bee hotels across the site to support native avian and pollinator species. Employees monitor the boxes annually using survey techniques. In addition, a pollinator garden was installed to provide supplemental habitat and foraging opportunities for native pollinators.
  • The site hosts the GREEN program once every year to engage 263 learners in community science and encourage community involvement in environmental sustainability. The event teaches learners about local impact on watersheds and the ecosystem along with ways to improve stream health and water quality.
