About the Program
Since the program at Waste Management's CWM Emelle Facility began in 2010, employees have worked on the 2,600-acre site in Alabama to conserve local habitat and mammal species. The area encompasses the Black Belt prairie and new growth forest that was pastureland until the 1990s. WM aims to better account for deer population growth on-site, as well as eliminate invasive plant species and feral hogs.

Practice and Impacts

  • The employees manage the local population of white-tailed deer using data collected by the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fish to inform future harvesting seasons.
