About the Program
WM's Laconia Transfer Station is located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, approximately 60 miles Northwest of Portsmouth. The project site consists of forest habitat with interspersed lawns, wetlands and grassy areas. Fifteen acres are managed for invasive species to improve habitat quality for wildlife.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team monitors 15 acres of forest edge and meadow habitat for invasive species. Rotational mowing, hand cutting and seeding are used to remove and reduce invasive species with a goal of total eradication within ten years.
  • Ten nest boxes on-site provide nesting opportunities for cavity-nesting native bird species, such as the eastern bluebird. The team monitoring the nests over the summer and removes any invasive bird species that may build nests.
