About the Program
The Olympus Titan Well Pad site in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, encompasses 6.5 acres of native grasslands and riparian habitat associated with a stormwater basin. The team at Olympus Energy has enhanced the existing habitat through the installation of natural and artificial structures to provide shelter for wildlife on-site. They have also installed basking structures and brush piles on-site for aquatic and terrestrial turtles. In 2023, Olympus Energy organized two educational events for scout troops in which participants constructed nest boxes for American kestrels and bluebirds.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team planted native vegetation including pollinator-friendly species, throughout the 0.45-acre riparian forest habitat in September 2023. Employees monitor the vegetation monthly and are encouraged to remove any trash in and around the riparian habitat.
  • A vernal pool was also created to support small reptiles, amphibians, birds and insects. The pool also serves as habitat for wood turtles and as a hunting ground for the American kestrel, both species of greatest conservation concern in Pennsylvania.
