About the Program
The Covia Junction City Plant is a mineral plant located in Mauk, Georgia, approximately 90 miles south of Atlanta and 50 miles west of Macon. The site has a fruit tree and vegetable garden plot on the north side of the property and there are three pollinator plots on-site. The site includes forested areas and water bodies, which help support wildlife populations. The objective is to promote on-site biodiversity, creating habitat for species including songbirds and foxes.

Projects
  • The team began a project in 2023 to monitor and support eastern bluebirds. Previously, there were 25 nesting boxes on the site, and the team replaced five older boxes in 2023. These nest boxes are monitored annually for the presence of the species and eggs. In the future, the team will ensure all existing nesting boxes are in good shape and replace any that are not.
  • The team installed two nest boxes to support Canadian geese populations. Observations of the species is recorded annually.
