About the Program
The 5,600-acre project site area is located in the state of Alabama, west of the capital Montgomery. The site is composed of primarily forest ecosystem, with various fields interspersed among the wooded habitats. The area and the surrounding region suffers from damage from invasive species, such as wild hogs, which tear up plants and can interfere with native wildlife. The team seeks to mitigate and prevent these impacts through an invasive species control project that traps and removes the wild hogs from the habitat of the project area.

Practices and Impacts
  • In order to control the harmful effects of invasive hogs, the team employs multiple control efforts to limit their population on-site. They contract a group of hunters to directly remove the invasive species and also utilize circular traps that can simultaneously corral multiple individuals.
