About the Program
Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Findlay Campus is located in downtown Findlay in northwest Ohio about a half mile south of the Blanchard River, and 40-miles south of Toledo, Ohio. The town has a population of approximately 41,000 people and is a leader in environmental stewardship by expanding an existing green space, and planting natives species throughout the city. The site actively manages an urban landscaped area as pollinator habitat to increase native bee, avian, and butterfly populations in an urban, landscaped environment. To this end, 1.25-acres of Findlay Campus is actively managed to increase vegetative coverage, provide additional habitat for native pollinator species, and connect local pollinator gardens.

Practices and Impacts
  • The site planted several host plants to meet habitat needs by providing foraging, shelter, and breeding opportunities for pollinators in an urban setting.
  • Boy Scouts built butterfly houses, and an 8,000 sq. ft.  pollinator garden was planted with exclusively native plants that benefit pollinators. Team members work with local land owners to develop additional pollinator gardens, expanding and connecting surrounding habitats.
