About the Program
The Argos USA Newnan Cement Terminal is a 4.5-acre industrial site situated in western Georgia. It is about 45 minutes southwest of Atlanta. The site is located in a predominantly commercial and industrial area where the team is managing the site's natural areas to increase the health of remaining habitat areas. About two acres of grassland, aquatic, marsh and wooded habitats are available for use by wildlife.
Practices and Impacts
- The team manages the gardens by weeding, mulching, tilling, watering, pruning and cutting back brush, cutting seed flower heads for future planting, and planting seeds.
- Projects being conducted on-site include kudzu removal through pesticide use to treat the invasive plants. Removing kudzu opens more space for native plants to establish themselves. These plants produce nectar and seeds favorable to native wildlife.
