About the Program
The Glanbrook Landfill is a 541-acre site located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Owned by the City of Hamilton and managed by WM, the site is used for the disposal of solid waste materials. Included in the site is approximately 50 hectares of buffer land. In 2007, the team established an avian project for enhancing nesting areas at the capped landfill on site for native and migratory avian species. The conservation objectives are to establish a current species inventory and to expand that inventory by creating diverse habitat areas and making it ecologically sound.

Practices and Impacts
  • Partners (Canadian Raptor Conservancy, Professional Falconers Group and Woodburn Services) are engaged in monitoring and nest box maintenance (implementation).
  • In 2020, the team installed additional wood duck nest boxes away from the active landfilling area.
